
This is according to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, who adds that 248 fines were issued to motorists for driving without their valid card driver’s licence.
Six vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy and159 fines were issued for registration and licensing contraventions.
“Some 216 fines were issued for moving violations and a further 148 fines for parking and stopping violations.”
He adds that 87 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and at informal settlements.
Mokheseng says that 56 fines were issued to special motorists, for driving without their Professional Drivers Permits (PRDP).
There were 26 accidents in the area, one of which resulted in serious injuries; one where slight injuries occurred, 23 which resulted in damages only and one where a municipal vehicle was involved.
