According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, at around 4.10pm, a call was received from the Kempton Park dispatch centre for a factory on fire.
“On arrival, two cargo trailers were on fire and the third one was partially burnt.”
He adds that the first arriving unit was Leon Ferreira Fire Station with two pumpers.
“Back-up stations such as Kempton Park, Rynfield and Farramere, arrived to assist. Apparently one of the employees of the company was repairing the refrigeration system of one cargo trailer using a cutting torch when the fire started,” says Ntladi.
One fire-fighter sustained burn wounds on his right hand while trying to extinguish the blaze.
The case has been handed over to SAPS for further investigations.
