Metro responsible for Comet sinkhole repairs

Finally, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has accepted responsibility to fix the massive sinkhole that opened up in one of the streets in Comet.

According to metro spokesperson Sam Modiba, the metro has instructed its As-and-When contractor to repair the sewer pipe that caused the sinkhole.

The repair is expected to be completed this month.

The hole opened up about five months ago.

Initially, the metro blamed mining activities for the subsidence, but residents blamed it on damaged water mains, caused by the storm sewers that run under the roads.
