Making drug meetings accessible

Recovering drug addict, Philip du Plessis, has partnered with Narcotics Anonymous (NA) in making their meetings accessible to the community.

From May 8 to June 20, Philip was admitted at the House of Mercy drug rehabilitation centre, after he hit rock bottom after 16 years of drug use.

He has now been clean for 107 days, and is on a two-week probation at an insurance company that has offered him a second chance.

Philip is part of the Gauteng NA area service sub-committee, which has launched a new initiative called Fellowship Developments.

Through this initiative, NA meetings are taken to areas such as Reiger Park, Vosloorus and Orange Farm, with one set to start in Alexandra.

“The focus of fellowship developments is to ensure the safety of recovering addicts. We are trying to bring the meetings closer to their homes to increase their attendance,” he says.

Philip says that there is therapeutic value in one addict helping another.

He encourages community members who have drug problems in their area, to contact the Advertiser on 011 916 5357 for his details.
