Couple arrested with 113 ammunition rounds and firearm

Police arrested a man (35) and his girlfriend (27) for possession of unlicensed firearm and 113 live ammunition rounds.

The two were arrested on Tuesday, August 20, at their home after police received a tip-off about unlicensed firearms.

Officers found the dangerous weapon and the ammunition under the couple’s mattress, in the bedroom.

Both suspects were charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. It then emerged that the lawful owner of the gun is a resident of Brakpan and he passed away sometimes ago.

Police were also trying to establish if the gun was linked to reported cases of armed robbery and murder in Reiger Park and surrounding areas.

The couple is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court this week.

Police reports indicate that the area has high rates of violent gun-related crime.

The police encourage residents to take a stand against illegal firearms and give police relevant information about those in possession of illegal firearms in the community.
