Fines drop dramatically

The number of fines issued to motorists for driving without their licences has dropped dramatically over the past few months.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, only five motorists were fined for driving without their valid card driver’s licence.

“Five vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy and 10 fines were issued for registration and licensing.”

He adds that 59 fines were given for moving violations and a further 10 fines for parking and stopping offences.

“Two motorists were arrested in the Boksburg area for driving while under the influence of alcohol,” he says.

Mokheseng says that 131 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and in informal settlements.

There were 19 accidents in the area, of which one where slight injuries emerged and the remainder resulted in damages only.
