Update: Boksburg power outage

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has confirmed that it is on track with repairs to electricity cables supplying the areas of Reiger Park and Ramaphosa in Boksburg.

This follows an electricity outage which has left residents in parts of the two areas without power since Saturday, July 27.

“A truck drove into medium voltage (mV) overhead cables in Reiger Park and caused a short circuit on the cables. This caused a fault current – an electrical reaction that goes through the network – resulting in multiple cable faults,” says metro spokesperson Sam Modiba.

“At lunch time, technicians had already managed to join 32 points where these faults had occurred, leaving a small portion of the affected areas without power.”

According to Modiba, the metro’s technicians have been working diligently to resolve the matter, and will continue to do so until all residents have their lights back on.
