Accident claims two lives
An elderly man and woman were killed on Monday morning, July 29, in an accident on Mapleton Road, Vosloorus.
According to Vanessa Jackson, spokesperson for ER24, a vehicle and a taxi collided into one another and the vehicle landed at the side of the road, crushed and badly damaged.
“The woman and man traveling in the sedan died on scene and nothing more could be done to save their lives.”
She adds that their two pets were in the car with them and one of the dogs died on scene while the other was rushed by ambulance to a nearby vet for further care of critical injuries.
“There had been 15 people in the taxi at the time, 13 adults and two children aged five to 12 years old.
“One of the women and a man had suffered extensive injuries, including multiple broken bones and both were airlifted by medical helicopters to nearby hospitals,” says Jackson.
She adds that the remaining 13 passengers, including two children, suffered minor to moderate injuries and they were all treated for their injuries on scene before being taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation by local authorities.
