Phat cats are coming to town

The National Cat Society will be hosting an All Breeds Championship Cat Show on Saturday, August 10, at the Boksburg Civic Centre.

According to Audrey Kenny, the event organiser, this is the last show on the cat show calendar, with 200 cats on show, all vying for the prestigious Cat of the Year title.

She adds that there are cats coming from as far as Cape Town to compete for the prestigious title.

A judge-off will be held to narrow down the 200 cats into four categories namely, The Best Persian, The Best Medium Hair, The Best Foreign and the Best Siamese and Oriental. Ultimately, there can only be one overall winner.”

Various vendors will be showcasing all things feline, from cat bedding to designer jewelery. Cat lovers and cat owners can expect to find all sorts of luxurious treats for their furry, domesticated, and carnivorous pet mammals.

Audrey spends her spare time going to schools and educating children on felines.

The entrance fee for this event is R5 for children and R10 for adults, all of which will go to the Kitty Kat Haven in Benoni, a non-profit foster-based rescue for cats.

“Every breeder wants to win the number one title at least once in their life-time, and anybody who is besotted with cats or doesn’t have a clue about cats are welcome,” says Audrey.
