Mercy Haven benefits from mall’s generosity
Marketing manager for the East Rand Mall, Allana Hoskin, together with a team from the mall, delivered 28 boxes of food packed on Mandela Day to Mercy Haven.
The initiative was part of a Stop Hunger project.
The mall donated R15 000 towards the purchasing of the food that was delivered to the home.
Hoskin says another R4 000 was received as donations from the public and various sponsors, which will then be used to purchase more food for Mercy Haven.
“We chose Mercy Haven, as we felt that it was a worthy organisation to give to.
“The shelter’s director, Zelda Nkabinde, told us that the shelter also runs a soup kitchen for various schools in underprivileged areas, and we hope that the food will assist to continue their good work,” said Hoskin.
Nkabinde expressed her gratitude towards East Rand Mall and the generous donation made to the shelter.
“We are grateful to see that there are people who care and are willing to make it possible for our organisation to carry on with the work that it does, more especially for the children,” she said.
Each box, according to Stop Hunger, can feed 144 people.
