Go to the movies for a Babalas – latest movies
This week at the movies promises to provide sci-fi, comedy and horror lovers a host of films to choose from.

However, a very interesting local film, Babalas, hits the screens, with a group of famous faces readying themselves to entertain the Afrikaans crowds.
Pacific Rim

When an alien attack threatens the Earth’s existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.

Mia Moolman (Tammy-Anne Fortuin) works for a Sandton events coordination company. The company has been commissioned by the department of Trade and Industry to do an event celebrating the most successful ad campaigns in the history of the SA advertising industry. This gala event will happen at Emperor’s Palace. The CEO of the company, Theodore (Wynand van Vollenstee), has asked his employees to pitch ideas for the show, and whoever comes up with the best idea will be awarded a promotion and a special bonus.
Mia comes up with the idea to make the three guys from the old Castrol commercials, Boet, Swaer en Mogae part of the show. Her boss eventually agrees to this, but she must go and find them in the Kalahari, and bring them to Emperor’s Palace in time for the big gala event. She finds them but encounters huge problems. Will they get to the big show in time?
Killing them Softly

Adapted from George V. Higgins novel Cogan’s Trade and set in New Orleans on the eve of Barack Obama’s 2008 election win, this all-star crime caper follows professional tough guy Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), who sets out on the trail of three not-too-bright criminals after they rob a high stakes underground poker game that was funded, unbeknownst to them, with mob money.
Now the mobsters want their money back, and more to the point, they want the robbers found and taught a very hard lesson. So, they send out Cogan and fellow enforcer Mickey (James Gandolfini) to do the job.
Dark Skies
Releases on August 2. Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller.
