Soup kitchen seeks assistance to feed the poor

Elspark couple, Dorothy and Hannes Mathee, occasionally feeds 100 people or more through their soup kitchen every week.

They provide a free and nutritious meal to the homeless and unemployed.

The kitchen is usually supported financially by donations received from individuals, civic groups and local church groups, but Dorothy says that with everything increasing in price, donations have been very slow.

Dorothy says that at times she and her husband receive enough money to serve the people pap and meat, but with fewer donations being made, it is getting too expensive to maintain the soup kitchen.

“Serving the hungry is a call from the Lord, and we have been given the opportunity to reach out to the people who need our help,” says Dorothy.

However, the couple admits that they would like to reach out to the community by donating food, clothes and toys so that they may be able to carry on with their work.

Anyone interested in contributing to the soup kitchen may contact Dorothy on 072 126 6806.
