According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, the security of a certain company in the area was overpowered by the alleged robbers, tied up and kept at the back of the property.
The suspects allegedly loaded tyres from the warehouse, managing to drive away with two trucks filled with tyres.
“The guard managed to untie himself and get help from ADT officers who helped to apprehend one of the suspects until the members of the SAPS arrived.
“Five suspects were arrested, and we do acknowledge this was possible because of the help received from the security companies that were on the scene,” says Coetzer.
Clive Humphrey, MD of ADT Central Region, says this is a great example of how security companies and the SAPS can work together to bring criminals to book.
“I applaud all the officers who assisted in this incident on a job well done,” he says.
Coetzer concurs with Humphrey, saying that members of the SAPS are grateful for the work done by the security companies.
“This is one of the reasons that we, the SAPS, on occasion hold meetings with security companies,” she says.
Humphrey urges all property owners to check their perimeter security regularly.
“Make sure that your fences are in good condition and cut back any bushes, grass or trees that may be interfering with your security. If you have a large perimeter, beams may be the answer,” he advises.
