Drugs worth R120 000 seized

A man was arrested on Friday afternoon, July 19, in Railway Road, after he was caught by members of the EMPD for selling drugs from the boot of his vehicle.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the bulk of the drugs were found hidden under the spare wheel in the boot.

“Drugs estimated at approximately R20 000 were seized and the man arrested,” he says.

Kgasago adds that EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Unit members had been monitoring the suspect’s activities since Monday, and decided to arrest the man as there was evidence of the illegal activity.

“Ecstasy, Cat and Mandrax tablets were confiscated, along with Heroine.

“The 31-year-old suspect was taken to the Boksburg Police Station on possession of illicit substances, as well as dealing in drugs,” says Kgasago.

He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on July 22.

The Boksburg police confirmed the arrest, however, estimates the drugs seized to be around R120 000 in value.

Investigations into the matter continue.
