Gas explosion injures three
A natural gas pipeline exploded in Anderbolt industrial area on Monday, July 22, causing an evacuation of the area.
Three workers of a nearby factory were injured.
The trio injured in the explosion were rushed to hospital by an ambulance after inhaling the natural gas fumes.
Apparently, the explosion was caused by a construction worker who mistakenly ruptured the gas pipeline, while digging the ground, using an excavator.
The construction worker was said to have hurriedly left the area, and reached other workers to alert them to the danger.
The damaged underground gas pipe which transport gas from the main gas pipeline, to a nearby factory, sent a cloud of natural gas into the sky for more than an hour.
Sasol gas technical services employees and Ekurhuleni Emergency Services workers arrived at the scene and managed to contain the situation.
