Ward councillor supports the needy during lockdown

"Thank you everybody that contributed towards this project. It’s much appreciated and these people are truly grateful the meals they’re receiving."

Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos is feeding dozens of hungry people in several parts of Boksburg during lockdown.

Approximately 60 people receive healthy meals such as chicken, rice and vegetables and bread at Du Plessis Street, the corner of Commisioner and Loop streets and Cinderella Hostel on a daily basis.

“The extended lockdown has a dire effect on everybody in the community. As the ward councillor I took it upon myself to ensure some people in need have something to eat before the sun sets every day,” said de Vos.

Thiyisela Risimati and Mpho Ndou from the Tiysela Foundation assisted Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos (middle) to hand out a nutritious meal to the needy in Du Plessis Street.

“Thousands of people in need of food now can’t ask for assistance anymore as people are isolating themselves. I’m concerned about children not getting enough food. Many children will go hungry during this time.”

He said residents, New Beginnings, Spar Boksburg, TGG Connect and Care Programme and Desiré Swart is making his initiative possible.

“Thank you everybody that contributed towards this project. It’s much appreciated and these people are truly grateful the meals they’re receiving,” said de Vos.

He urged people to support the initiative to help people during this uncertain time.
