Criminals vandalise newly erected Farrar Park fence

Ward 32 Clr said they would implement a proper plan to protect the fence as soon as the 21-day national lockdown is over.

Illegal miners and criminals allegedly targeted the newly installed fence around the field in Farrar Park.

According to Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos, illegal miners and criminals cut two holes into the fence, as they want to use the bush as a hiding spot.

The fence is a long-awaited request by Farrar Park residents as DRD Gold mine refused to erect another fence around their property as it had been stolen or vandalised in the past.

“For now, we requested the involved security company to patrol the area and complete the installation of the security cameras as soon as possible.

“It’s still unclear if the mine will be willing to repair the holes. When the mine agreed to reinstall the fence, they said that it’s the community’s responsibility to maintain and safeguard it,” de Vos pointed out.

He further urged the community to be vigilant and report suspicious activity around the fence.

Antoinette van Zyl, spokesperson of the project, said they are grateful the mine honored their part of the agreement and the community should now assist in safeguarding the fence.
