Man found with gun, owner charged with negligence

The owner of the firearm was also arrested and charged with negligent loss of firearm.

A complaint about a man in possession of a firearm was recently reported to Boksburg North police officers.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, when officers responded to the complaint they found the 27-year-old man on Paul Kruger Street in Boksburg North.

“The police officers searched him and found that he was in possession of a 406 revolver with no serial number. When asked to produce his firearm licence he failed to do so and was unable to give a satisfactory explanation,” he said.

The man was arrested and his firearm was taken in for further investigations.

During preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the firearm belonged to a 34-year-old man who didn’t report the firearm as lost.

“The man acknowledged that he had left his gun in a toilet, but couldn’t remember when,” Ramaube said.
