Rainfall wrecks Boksburg’s crumbling roads

Motorists are urged to be more cautious after incessant December’s downpours across the province left many roads in Boksburg and other areas across the province riddled with potholes, causing roads to become impassable.

As if the flooding chaos caused by blocked stormwater drains in the city has not been bad enough already, motorists in Boksburg and across Ekurhuleni are now facing another weather-related hazard – potholes.

Many road users took to social media to share their frustrations of having to negotiate their way around huge waterlogged potholes on the city’s roads, complaining that the wet weather has had a massive impact on the road infrastructure, and causing an enormous increase in the number of potholes.

The stretch of road near the Angelo Hotel remains flooded.

The Advertiser inspected several damaged local roads, and found that heavy rains had aggravated existing potholes, and these included Main Reef, Pretoria, Field, among others. The downpours also created new potholes.

The question is: Will the local authorities, who have the duty to take reasonable measures to ensure that grave risks are removed, swiftly embark on maintenance and repair programme, prioritising to repair all potholes across the city?

We await the metro’s comment on this issue.
