A former long-serving member of the Boksburg SAPS, Sgt Simphiwe Gumede, has, along with his team, been awarded for tracking down a most wanted dangerous criminal who shot cops in two different incidents in the City of Ekurhuleni.
The award ceremony, also attended by his former commanders, was held in Kempton Park on November 13.
Gumede was recently offered the opportunity to join a special task team designed to track down the most dangerous criminals in the province.
With his team, Gumede managed to arrest the man responsible for the fatal shooting of a cop during a recent robbery at the Sasol garage on the R554, Klippoortje, and another shooting of a police officer in Primrose.
The man was reportedly found with a fully loaded AK47 and has since been convicted and sentenced for his crimes.
