
• In Libradene, thugs forced their way into a property on Rutter Street sometime between October 10 and 11 and stole a TV set and two laptops – while the victim was asleep. Intruders forcefully opened one of the windows to gain entry.
• Also in Rutter Street, A TV set, a bicycle, a camera and a laptop were stolen during a burglary at a residential house sometime during the period between October 10 and 11, while the complainant was asleep.
• In Market Street, Boksburg CBD, thieves forced their way into a business and stole a TV set and decoder sometime between October 11 and 12.
• In Sunward Park, thugs forced their way into a shop on Kingfisher Avenue on October 11 and stole money and stock, including cigarettes.
• A man returned home from custody to find that thieves have entered his residence and stole electrical appliances. The victim told police the break-in probably happened while he was arrested during the period between October 9 and when he returned home on October 10.
These and other recent property-related crime reports indicate that house break-ins had become a common problem in the city, with at least five cases reported per week.
Looking at the items that criminals go for when entering properties, the top-stolen items are usually electric appliances and jewellery, followed by clothing.
Based on the lists of items reportedly stolen during most of the previous home invasions, thugs are most likely to steal the following items during house break-ins: TV sets, mobile phones, sound systems, laptops and other electronic devices, money, jewellery and clothing.
