Resident concerned about alleged illegal cable connections in Main Reef Road

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he noticed that cables are left hanging suspended in the air along Main Reef Road, between Lorant and Field streets.

A Boksburg resident is now at his wits’ end as he is struggling to get his complaints about alleged illegal cable connections attended to.

Apparently the matter was reported numerous times to the metro, but the resident is still struggling to get the matter attended to.

“A while ago, I was driving between Boksburg and Germiston for work and I was shocked to see that there are illegal cable connections running along in Main Reef Road. It’s concerning that the perpetrators are not even trying to hide it, as the cables are just hanging in the air,” explained the concerned resident.

“I reported the problem approximately four times, to no avail. People are encouraged to report illegal connections and I believe they should attend to matters that are reported.

“I just want the matter attended to. The illegal connections are hazardous, especially in the rain season, and can cause electrocution. The people who set up these illegal connections are also in danger of getting electrocuted, they are not qualified electricians.

“Their actions affect the whole community. Illegal connections also pose a great risk as it can overload the system, which can cause the power connection to trip or fail and can also create a fire.”

He also added that illegal connections are not fair towards those who are paying for electricity.

“I have sympathy with people who are unable to pay these soaring bills, but to me it’s still inequitable that some people pay for their electricity their while others are stealing electricity. Some of us are still working extremely hard to pay these bills,” said the resident.
