A normal day at a park in Dawn Park on September 17 turned into a nightmare for two lovers who were stabbed multiple times leaving one of them dead.
A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder.
According to the Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson, Const Nkemeleng Mabula, when police arrived at a park situated along Galahad Street, they found the victims lying on the ground with stab wounds.
A 35-year-old man was certified dead on the scene by paramedics and his 32-year-old girlfriend was taken to hospital for medical attention.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two victims were sitting in their vehicle at the park when they were approached by the 19-year-old suspect.
“It is alleged that a squabble ensured between the suspect and couple. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victims with a sharp object and fled the scene,” Mabula said.
Mabula said community members who saw the incident ran after the suspect and apprehended him and he was taken to the Dawn Park SAPS.
Dawn Park Police Station station commander Lt Col Johannes Chairman Makhubo applauded the action of the community by apprehending the suspect.
