Bogus cops active: What should you do when pulled over

The police advised residents to get to know their police officers so they can easily identify them whenever they are pulled over.

The police couldn’t provide a definite answer to the question what to do when a police officer wants to pull you over.

The Boksburg SAPS suggested that if you have reasonable suspicions that the person pulling you over is not a police officer, you may need to call your nearest police station, and perhaps put on their hazards and drive at a normal speed to the nearest police station or public place.

A police source told the Advertiser there are several cases where motorists were robbed and their vehicles hijacked after being pulled over by people driving in marked traffic police and SAPS vehicles wearing police uniforms along the R554 in the Brakpan area.

No shots were fired, no injuries were reported and no arrests have been made in all the aforementioned incidents.
