Sexual assault cases spike in Boksburg
Nationally, a record of 10 752 sexual offences crimes have been committed in the 2018/19 financial year which shows a drastic increase from last year’s record of 10 116.
A total of 237 cases of sexual offences were reported in Boksburg during the 2018/19 period.
This has been revealed in the latest crime statistics released by SAPS over the last year.
Within the Boksburg Police Station precinct, sexual offences crimes increased to 62 in the 2018/19 financial year, compared to the 59 recorded in the previous financial year.
The Reiger Park SAPS also saw a drastic increase from 39 (2017/18) to 52 cases of sexual offences recorded in the 2018/19 period.
In Boksburg North SAPS, 50 sexual offences crimes were reported, with 11.1 per cent compared to 2017/18, 45 recorded statistic.
Dawn Park SAPS showed a major decrease in sexual offences and rape crimes in the 2018/19 period.
In the 2017/18 financial year, 85 cases related to sexual offences were reported compared to the 73 cases recorded in the 2018/19 period.
For rape, they recorded a -28.4 per cent which means that in the 2018/19 period, 53 cases were reported compared to the 74 increase seen in the 2017/18 period.
However, at the Reiger Park SAPS there was a spike in number of cases of rape opened at the police precinct.
For the 2018/19, 41 rape cases were recorded compared to 2017/18 record of 27 cases registered at the police precinct.
Meanwhile, the Boksburg North Police Station precinct also showed a decrease of 23 cases of rape, compared to the 26 cases recorded in the 2017/18 period.
At the Boksburg SAPS there was a slight increase of 44 cases of rape recorded in the 2018/19 compared to the 42 statistic recorded in the previous year.
Sexual assault cases recorded at the Boksburg SAPS, Boksburg North SAPS and Dawn Park have seen a drastic increase compared to the previous year.
For Boksburg North 27 cases were recorded compared to the 17 cases recorded in the 2017/18 period.
Also in Dawn Park for the 2018/19, 17 cases were reported compared to the previous year’s record of 6 cases reported.
Lastly, the Boksburg SAPS recorded a 7.7 per cent for rape.
With a slight difference, for the 2018/19, 14 cases of sexual cases were recorded compared to the 13 cases reported for the previous year.
However, at the Reiger Park SAPS there was a decrease of eight cases reported compared to the 2017/18 record of 10 cases reported.
