Bus operations resume following strike

No buses were operating due to a miscommunication between the drivers and the manager at the bus depot.

Operations at the Boksburg Municipal Bus Depot have gone back to normal after thousands of learners from various schools in Boksburg were left stranded after school on August 23.

Learners from schools, such as Boksburg High School, Hoërskool Voortrekker, St Michael’s Primary and Comet Primary School, protested outside the Municipal Bus Depot demanding that the drivers take them home.

Learners from other schools were also left stranded.

In the afternoon of August 26, drivers fetched the learners from school, but a resolution was not reached between the parties involved.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the City’s management had a meeting with the drivers and union representatives on August 26 and they agreed that drivers must go back to work while all their concerns are addressed.

“Operations resumed as of that afternoon to ensure that all passengers were able to catch buses for the afternoon travels,” Gadebe said.
