Fake cops target motorist in Boksburg

Police are investigating a carjacking and robbery case.

Boksburg police are hunting a gang of carjackers who are using a vehicle fitted with police blue lights and pretending to be police officers.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the gang pounced on an unsuspecting Brakpan man as he was driving in a Toyota double cab bakkie along Trichardts Road near the R554 on August 28.

The gang posing as police officers flashed the blue lights to signal to their target to stop at about 6.30pm. The driver complied and pulled over.

Three armed men got out of the supposed police vehicle, pointed at him with the firearms and forced him to sit in the back seat.

They drove the vehicle with him inside towards Windmill Park, where they stripped the dashboard to apparently remove the tracking device.

Thereupon, they robbed the victim of his cellphone, laptop and firearm and drove off in what the driver said appeared to be a BMW or Golf 7.

No shots were fired and no injuries reported.
