Kingfisher Road repaired as DA calls for further pedestrian safety

The road itself was identified as needing urgent upgrades and resurfacing. Therefore, it was placed on the integrated development plan for Ward 31.

The DA in Ekurhuleni is pleased that the section located between the Lifestyle Centre and Barry Marais Road on Kingfisher Road in Sunward Park has finally been repaired.

According to Ald Jackie Reilly, the DA member of the infrastructure oversight committee in Ekurhuleni, the road has been deteriorating at an alarming rate because of heavy motorist traffic combined with last summer’s heavy rains.

“As a result, huge potholes emerged which posed a serious danger to motorists. Although temporary fixes were used to patch up the potholes, they kept on re-emerging,” said Reilly.

“While the DA is pleased with the road upgrades, we have further requested the construction of a non-motorised route to accommodate pedestrians, runners and cyclists on the busy road. This would improve the general safety of commuters.”

Pine Pienaar from Sunward Park said the company involved, the manager supervising the job and his staff must be complimented for their work.

“They did the work in a record time, it looks professional and deserves a huge compliment as well as thanks for an excellent piece of work.  Kingfisher Avenue will now be as smooth as the ice in an ice rink.

“Thank goodness, no more potholes and rough patches. Now to tackle Atlas Road please, which is like an off-road rally track, so bumpy.  Please give this company more work to do as they are very professional.”
