VIDEO: Women pray for lawlessness to end in the country
South Africa celebrates National Women's Day on August 9. It commemorates one of the largest demonstrations staged in this country's history, when 20 000 women of all races marched to Pretoria's Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, to present a petition against the carrying of passes by women to the prime minister, JG Strijdom.
Women from different churches in Vosloorus, Katlehong and other surrounding areas, gathered at the Boksburg Correctional Services on August 8 for the Women’s Prayer Day.
Women in uniform from SAPS, EMPD, Lesedi Traffic Police and Boksburg Correctional Services, also graced the event.
The prayer event was held in celebration of Women’s Day on August 9, to recognise achievements made by women in social, political and economic spheres.
With the theme, ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’, various speakers encouraged women to be the best that they can be.
Lucky Mabena, head of Correctional Centre A, encouraged women to rise above their situation and seize opportunities with integrity.
The religious women also prayed for the leadership of the country and the protection for law enforcement officers. They also prayed for a solution to unemployment, job security and lawlessness in the country.
