Plenty of purring and beautiful cats on display at National Cat Society show

The annual cat show took place at the Boksburg Civic Centre on August 5.

Boksburg residents Anthony Strydom and Mario Badenhorst, with their kitten Rextacular Valentina, a blue pointed Cornish Rex, were the ultimate winners at the 2019 National Cat Society show.

Unlike the previous years, this year’s show attracted many cat lovers from Boksburg and as far as Johannesburg.

Ninety- three pedigree cats took part in the competition, while 16 pets were showcased.

Different breeds such as Persians, Sphynx, Burmese, Devon Rexes, Abyssinians, Ragdolls, Orientals, Bambinos, Maine Coons and many more made an appearance at the competition.

Some of the categories in the competition included top female/male cat, top female and male kitten, as well as top neutered cats.

Johannesburg-based Karen Beyers and her cat Riley won in the domestic pet category.

Beyers, who has won various cat shows before, described her cat as a gentle giant.

“I am proud of Riley and I’m happy that we won,” Beyers said.

The prizes included a rosette and cat products from the competition’s sponsor, Royal Canin.

Audrey Kenny, from the National Cat Society, said: “The event was a success as we had a very good turnout. Parents from Skylou Montessori school in Libradene popped in with their children to view the cats.”

The show provided an opportunity for breeders and cat lovers to network and discuss feline matters.
