Local NPO launches fund-raiser in honour of education

Plans are also afoot to launch literacy programmes as many school children are still illiterate.

Glow Edu-Centre, an NPO that focuses on education in affiliation with Edu-Build, is busy launching a fund-raiser with the aim of raising R5-million in honour of education.

The goal of the fund-raiser and awareness campaign is to bring people from different races and classes together.

Edu-Build, a division of Glow Edu-Centre in Boksburg, will raise funds by involving several companies and will host fund-raising events. They will also aim to involve churches and other religious institutions.

According to Tamlyn Moosa, the owner of the company that runs the NPO, they have already sponsored around R485 000 worth of education since 2017.

“We transport learners to and from home daily using a borrowed bus. We drive as far as half an hour from our centre to pick up learners who see us as their safe haven. Our heart lies with educating orphaned and vulnerable children.

“Thus far, as much as 90 per cent of our sponsored learners come from homes with at least one parent deceased; abused backgrounds; and foster homes.”

She said donations supply every child with the opportunity to not only be educated, but to find a place where they feel safe.

“We do not plan on stopping here, we aim on opening a shelter and safe haven for those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds in order to educate them and draw out the lost hope within them. It all starts with your donation and ends with a united nation.
