Massive anti-crime operation targets Boksburg’s crime hotspots

The SAPS vowed that such operation will become business as usual at all the crime hotspots in Ekurhuleni and across the province.

A massive joint anti-crime operation yielded some positive results over the weekend in Boksburg.

A team of more than 116 members, consisting of members of the SAPS, EMPD, CPFs, local security companies, Liquor Board officials and other stakeholders were involved.

The law-enforcement exercise, in line with Operation O Kae Molao, was aimed at crime hotspots in the city.

It led to the arrests of suspects, seizure of undesirable items and closure of illegal shebeens, as well as licensed liquor outlets showing a blatant disregard of the liquor regulations.

Officers closed down four taverns in Angelo informal settlement, issued fines to some of the licensed outlets, confiscated large quantities of alcohol, a sound system, speakers, TV sets, generators, equipment used for illegal mining, gold dust and other items.

Arrest: Possession of drugs: one, illegal mining: 3, theft: 2, drinking in public: 1.

The EMPD issued 19 tickets to the value of R13 000.
