Members from the Boksburg North SAPS are mourning the death of their former colleague, Col Martin van Nieuwenhuizen, who was once the station commander at Boksburg North SAPS.
He was a seasoned police officer with decades of experience in the service.
Boksburg North SAPS station commander Col Kumbulani Mbatha described van Nieuwenhuizen as a highly disciplined man who wanted things to be done according to the book.
“I knew van Nieuwenhuizen very well because we used to work under the same cluster,” said Mbatha.
“While I was still working as a Vispol commander in Tsakane, I would always approach him for assistance when I had trouble with my members.
“He was a straight talker, respectful and very helpful and he would go out his way to assist you,” Mbatha said.
