False reporting of cases is punishable

A man was recently arrested for perjury on July 11, after opening a false case of robbery with the Boksburg North SAPS on July 9.

The man claimed that he had been approached by three unknown males who forcefully took his wallet, which had R800 inside.

During the investigation, the detective found that the complainant was lying about the cash, while it was then discovered the man had gambled away the R800.

The Boksburg North SAPS warns the public that reporting a false case is a serious offence.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, the station has experienced a few incidents of false reports where people claim that they had their possessions stolen from their vehicles or during robberies.
