Khat worth more than R200 000 confiscated in Jet Park

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime investigation unit at OR Tambo International Airport's customs intercepted the alleged drug dealer in possession of 20 boxes full of dry Cat.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested for possession of Khat worth over R200 000 at a warehouse in Jet Park on May 10.

Hawks spokesman Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation arrested the suspect who was delivering a consignment at a warehouse for shipment to United Kingdom.

“The suspect claimed it was herbal tea. A vehicle used in commission of the crime was also seized, which, on a later stage, will be forfeited to the state.

“Investigation continues,” Mulamu said.

The man will appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on May 13 facing charges of dealing in drugs under the Customs and Excess Act 91 of 1964 and drug trafficking Act 140 of 1992.
