The municipality admits that there have been unreasonable delays in getting the damaged Boksburg Library roofing structure fixed and blames the delays on lack of funds.
This comes after the Advertiser recently reported that dozens of library users had complained that the metro’s plan to get the roof repaired was moving at a snail’s pace and that they were being kept in the dark about when the municipality planned to address all the library issues.
Responding to our list of questions on the ceiling repair operation, metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “The delays on repairs to the ceiling were due to unavailability of funds, which required an application for additional funds.

“We are, however, happy to report that request for additional funds has been approved and work will begin in earnest.
“The contractor has been appointed to begin with the work and will advise the library management on the reasonable expected date for completion.”
Gadebe said the metro is mindful of the urgency of this matter and will ensure that the damaged roof structure is repaired speedily so that library patrons can enjoy its services again.
“As an alternative, the mobile bus will continue to render service on Friday mornings until the library is operational.”
The roofing structure of the library collapsed in February and the City of Ekurhuleni’s online library system has been intermittently offline, inconveniencing many library users.
