The Rotary Club of Boksburg is looking to compile a list of organisations that need assistance and a list of companies looking to offer support.
According to club president Derek Fox, people are generally compassionate and there are so many people who are doing so much good, but it is not coordinated.
“It is in an independent capacity where they could be benefiting from supporting organisations such as Rotary, Lions, Round Table and many others. Thus organisations, including churches, with the infrastructure to support needs,” said Fox.
“Rotary is 114 years old this year. With the support of many people, Rotary has for example managed to eradicate polio from the world and bar Afghanistan and Pakistan due to religious reasons.
“Rotary is thus organised in many cities around the world and in South Africa to support the needs of the people in need and to offer companies and corporates an avenue to direct their CSI and CSR spending through.
“I started Ekurhuleni Community Chest way back in the 1990s to overcome a similar problem where companies were giving donations, but was not sure whether they are reaching the intended recipients.
“Back then, we had a social welfare indaba attended by social welfare organisations to determine the need. Since then the need has grown exponentially and calls for a coordinated effort to make a difference.
“Those looking for support, please indicate what support you require. Also, give us the organisation name and contact details.
“Those willing to offer support, provide us with the contact details of the person responsible who we could speak to.”
