Church in Boksburg North opens a children’s home

Emperors Palace recently donated R10 000 to the children’s home, which will be used to buy a geyser.

The Dirk San Kinderhuis children’s home in Boksburg North has so far taken in six children.

The home was founded by Pastor André Kleynhans, who is the senior pastor at Kerk Wat Werk.

It was officially opened last year in January, with the aim of looking after abandoned children.

One of the congregants died and the widow couldn’t look after her children anymore. That’s when the idea of opening a children’s home was born.

“As a church, we then saw it fit to protect these children by giving them a warm shelter where they can live,” said Kleynhans.

“We then decided to buy a house and turn it into a children’s home where other children who live under the same conditions could be looked after as well.”

“According to Scripture, as Christians, our mandate is to look after the elderly and orphans and keep our heart straight because that is the perfect will of God.

“At church, we look after our elderly people, but we didn’t have our own orphanage, even though we were helping with the upgrades to the East Rand Children’s Home,” he said.

Kleynhans said when they opened the home they were not aware of the legal procedure, they just jumped in to help these children.

“As time went by, we were made aware of the procedure that should be followed to run a children’s home. At the moment, the registration of the home is lawfully still in progress and we are being assisted by a law firm.

“The home is functioning under the auspices of the church, which is paying for everything in the house.

“We have been blessed with donations from good Samaritans who have donated money.

“Then we have donors such as Dan Steyn Attorneys, who donated gym equipment, while A&G Plumbers, SWS Security and Peter Zerwick have also assisted greatly.”

Still in its infancy, Dirk San Kinderhuis has six rooms for girls, six for boys and two for the house mothers.

He appeals to anyone who would be interested in donating cupboards to call him on 082 410 7930.
