Boy (7) dies after falling from a tree
The family expressed its gratitude to the school, the Reiger Park Community Forum and the community at large for their support in arranging and preparing for the boy’s funeral.
A seven-year-old boy from Reiger Park, Cody Hartzenburg, died after falling out of an about 25m-high tree.
The boy was, at the time, apparently climbing his neighbour’s tree to pick avocados.
The bizarre accident took place in the yard across the boy’s home on Buttercup Street, in Reiger Park.
Cody died after suffering head, shoulder, ribs and leg injuries.
According to Cody’s uncle, Brian Pietersen, the tragic incident happened on the morning of February 9.
Emergency services were called immediately after the boy fell. Cody later died in hospital.
The boy was in Grade Two at Lakeside Primary School.
The school held a memorial service on the morning of February 13 to pay respects to the fallen learner.
Cody will be laid to rest on February 15.
The school management was not immediately available to comment on the loss of their learner.
The Advertiser is still waiting for the Reiger Park police’s comment on the incident.
