It seems the municipality is still far from winning the war against cable theft in the metro, as thieves continue to help themselves to the power infrastructure, plunging communities into darkness.
Thieves have again reportedly stolen a 33KV power cable in Parkrand, along the N17 at about 3am today (January 30), according to concerned citizens.
The theft reportedly resulted in power supply disruptions in areas including Parkrand, Freeway Park, Lidradene, Sunward Park and other surrounding suburbs.
The Advertiser is still awaiting full details of the attack on the public infrastructure, including the projected power restoration time frame in the affected areas.
The perpetual thefts of power cables bring the municipality’s ability to protect its infrastructure into question. Many residents have been asking the metro to find an answer to the constant cable thefts in the metro.
