Local Rotarian honoured with an international reward

Rotary Club guiding principles include the Four-way Test , while other principles involve Rotary’s commitment to service above self, which is channeled through Five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International, and New Generations.

Dave Beattie (78), who has been a Rotarian for 27 years, was awarded an International Rotary Award for his hard work and contribution to his club, Boksburg Lake.

This award is known as the 5 Avenues of Rotary Service and only one such award is granted per club each year.

Beattie was ill and hospitalised when the award was awarded to him.

Old friend and former president Noel Wauchope received the award on Beattie’s behalf.

Former district governor Shirley Downie did the honours on behalf of Rotary International during a visit to Beattie’s club.

Downie spoke to the club about public relations on a rotary club level.

She explained that public relations do not only consist of the number of publications which a club is able to gain but relies also on building good relationships on all possible levels and with all possible contacts a club reaches.

The meeting was enjoyed by the company of representatives from the Humble Smile Foundation who delivers comprehensive preventive oral care in sustainable projects around the world.
