New bicycle wheels for Oosrand Secondary learners
Urban Ruins has three cycling team projects in Reiger Park, Urban Ruins and Vosloorus.
United Parcel Services (UPS) hosted a Build a Bike Day on October 20 at Urban Ruins.
Staff members learnt to build 30 bicycles from scratch. From the bicycles built, 18 of them with cycling helmets and kit were donated to the Urban Ruins project called the Oosrand Secondary Multi Terrain Bicycles Team.
The remaining 12 bicycles were donated to the Urban Ruins cycling team.
The Oos Rand team was established this year and consists of about 20 learners.

The Urban Ruins project focuses on outreaches to disadvantaged schools with the aim of developing cycling teams.
Leigh Ingle (Urban Ruins founding member) said the team has so far participated in the Spur National MTB league last year.
“With the donated bicycles, the school can continue to develop their cycling team and participate in next year’s Spur league,” she said.
The deputy principal of Oosrand Secondary School, Peter Arendse, expressed his excitement for the donation of mountain bicycles to the learners.
If anyone would like to support the team or join the cycling team contact coach Ingrid Ruiters on 084 603 3866.
