Comet Primary School learners receive sanitary towels
It was discovered that a number of girl learners are from families living in poverty in the informal settlement, and do not have access to hygiene products.
In partnership with Temple Court Ministries in Comet, Mubenga Security Services recently donated dozens of sanitary towels and a range of toiletries to learners at Comet Primary School.
The visitors handed out special gift packs containing pads, soap, toothpaste and roll-on deodorant to 90 girl learners at the school.
The security company’s managing director Thami Mubenga said their gesture of kindness forms part of the organisation’s social responsibility outreach.
“As a company, we decided to partner with the church and make a difference in the lives of girl learners in our community.
“We chose to help this particular school after we discovered that a number of girl learners are from families living in poverty in the informal settlement, and do not have access to hygiene products, especially feminine items that are required during their menstrual period,” said Mubenga.
The deputy principal Natasha Beharrie expressed her gratitude to the team for their gesture of goodwill, saying she is glad that girls from the school received the much-needed items to restore their dignity.
“It’s such a good initiative for the community to come and help us,” said Beharrie.
During the special handover, Sister Susan Mafisa, from Sister Sue’s Mobile Healthcare Services, educated the girls on hygiene, skincare and a healthy diet.
