Guards robbed in Dawn Park not a cash-in-transit heist

The Advertiser initially reported an undisclosed amount of money was stolen during a cash-in-transit heist.

An armed robbery case has been opened at the Dawn Park SAPS after three unknown men pointed firearms at and took an undisclosed amount of money from two G4S guards.

This is after the guards had just picked up money at Cashbuild at the Dawn Park Shopping Centre on September 11. The incident took place just after 8am.

Dawn Park spokesperson Const Nkemeleng Mabula said what unfolded at the Dawn Park Shopping Centre was an armed robbery, not a cash-in-transit heist.

“The guards were approached by three unknown men with firearms. The suspects pointed firearms at the guards and they took the undisclosed amount of money.

“The suspects allegedly ran to a white Jetta vehicle and loaded the cash.

“A shoot-out ensued between the guards and the suspects, however, managed to flee the scene with the loot,” Mabula said.

Mabula said it appears four other suspects were waiting in the vehicle, thus seven suspects were allegedly involved in the shoot-out with the guards.
