Shools called to participate in the Ekurhuleni debating challenge

The much sought-after prizes for the winners include R5 000 cash prize for the winning junior school and R10 000 cash prize for the senior school. 

The Ekurhuleni meto, in partnership with Tshimong, invites all public schools based in Ekurhuleni to enter the Ekurhuleni Debating Challenge.

According to metro spokesperson, the tournament aims to develop the public speaking and critical thinking skills of learners in grades 8 to 12.

“Schools can register for the tournament by simply completing the online entry form before the deadline, August 27,” said Gadebe.

He said the tournament has two different categories – the junior category for grades 8 – 9 and senior category for grades 10 – 12.

“The tournament will run every weekend of September. All junior debates will take place on Saturdays, and all senior debates will take place on Sundays.

“The finale will take place on October 27 in honour of O.R Tambo. Debates will happen at host schools in Ekurhuleni.

“Registered schools will receive lunch and transport subsidy.”
