Oil leak could lead to environmental issues

The Advertiser has reported the lead to the metro and is awaiting a response.

Oil polluted water is gushing from the drain on the corner of Francis Road and Dormehl Street in Anderbolt since the afternoon of August 6.

This is not the first time that oil has been gushing from that drain.

According to ward Clr Marius de Vos, this is a clear violation of the environmental by-laws of the municipality.

“This type of discharge is finding its way on a daily basis into the channel and eventually landing in the Boksburg lake.”

De Vos said the lack of environmental inspectors in the Ekurhuleni metro has created favourable conditions for factory discharge to be released into the natural water streams effectively destroying the freshwater resources in the municipality.

“This act in my view is criminal and the perpetrators should be traced and charge accordingly.”
