Zianné Nienaber (4), from Jansen Park, has been blessed with thick locks of light-coloured hair since she was born.
With her hair flowing down her back, she often referred to herself as Rapunzel.
The locks, however, flew without a tear when the little hero agreed to donate a ponytail of about 30cm to the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) on July 1.
Zianné’s mother, Zelda, said the young girl was eager to give her hair away as it was “going to help sick people”.
“Zianné lost one grandmother early this year to cancer and her other grandmother is battling breast cancer at the moment. It really was special for her to give away her hair, that she loved so much,” said Zelda.
Zelda said the short hair is a lot easier to handle and Zianné is embracing the short style and does not want to tie it up.
“We will definitely do it again, it is for such a good cause,” said Zelda.
