Crime intelligence information provided by the SAPS assisted the EMPD Community Liaison Unit to arrest two suspects involved in illegal mining and in the recovery of commercial explosives and detonating cords.
According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the arrests and the recoveries were made on Friday, June 1 at around 2pm at Angelo informal settlement in Boksburg.
“A shack yard at Angelo settlement, with several people busy sieving what is believed to be gold-laden soil to obtain the precious metal, was located,” said Kgasago.

“On searching the shack the metro police came across blasting explosives with detonating cords.
“A woman who claimed to be the owner of the shack pointed out a man from the people in the yard as the owner of the explosives.
He said the woman (31) and the man (29) were arrested and detained at Boksburg police station on charges of illegal possession of explosives and blasting cords.
They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
