Four men were arrested for breaking into a business at a local furniture store in North Rand Road.
According to Capt Juanita Coetzer, Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, four suspects entered the store on May 25 at 6.45pm.
“The complainant was about to close the store when the suspects entered posing as potential customers,” said Coetzer.
Coetzer said one suspect closed the shop door while another suspect took out a firearm and pointed at the complainant.
The complainant was searched and the suspects took cash, a cellphone, the store keys and a panic button from him.
During the robbery, two other suspects placed a mattress from the store on the back of a delivery truck, posing as delivery men.
“When the actual delivery truck came back to the store and saw the ‘fake delivery truck’, the delivery men noticed that something was wrong.”
A SAPS vehicle was spotted nearby and the delivery staff informed the officers of their suspicions.
“The ‘fake’ delivery truck was blocked from leaving through the boom and held at the store. When the suspects in the store saw the SAPS they fled the scene.”
According to Coetzer, the suspects ran in different directions. The SAPS set chase and managed to arrest three suspects.
The arrested suspects identified the fourth accomplice who was then also arrested.
Detective Warrant Officer Willem van Aswegen investigated the case and a docket of business robbery was opened.
The suspects appeared in court yesterday (May 28).
