National Cerebral Palsy conference hosted in Boksburg
Three people living with cerebral palsy presented at the conference, sharing their perceptions with regards to cerebral palsy.
The 47th National Cerebral Palsy conference took place at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from May 21 to 23.
This was a prestigious event that was attended by representatives from all over South Africa.
The theme of the conference this year was “Caring to know, knowing to care”. Numerous experts in the field of cerebral palsy were invited to present at the conference.
A wide variety of topics were covered. These included:
- Epilepsy in children with cerebral palsy.
- Feeding problems in children with cerebral palsy.
- The use of alternative and augmentative communication in children with cerebral palsy.
- Hippotherapy (therapy with horses) and speech-language development in children with cerebral palsy.
André Kalis from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NAPCP) spoke about the major violations of the rights of children and persons with disabilities.
The conference was hosted by Muriel Brand School in Brakpan.
